Deluge is a 5 Star restaurant...

Review by: Luis Pedron and Antonio Alvaira

Deluge Restaurant at the Sheraton LaGuardia East Hotel
135-20 39th Avenue Flushing, NY  11368 Tel:  718-670-7400

If you are looking to impress your business prospect, your girlfriend, boyfriend or any loved one...head to Sheraton LaGuardia East Hotel at their deluxe restaurant called "Deluge."  Firstly it is  great to know that their Express Business (Lunch) Menu is only $16.95 (American) / $14.95 (Chinese) per person. For that  you get your selection of appetizers/salad, entree and dessert. When you enter this paradise haven you will be welcomed by a relaxing fountain followed by welcoming smile of the management and staff. They will escort you to your seats which are mostly  private either partitioned with a curtain or for large groups ask for the private room. The ambience is casual elegant with a very relaxing Mediterranean feel - earthy and did I say oh so relaxing.

I visited the restaurant on two occassions for Lunch. First time was when I tried the Express American Business Menu.  I selected the Crispy Seared Salmon with Sweet Chili Glaze. It was heavenly experiencing the contrasting flavor and the fresh Salmon went well with the Purple Sticky Rice with baby Bok Choy and the Brioce Bread Pudding.
The four course did its trick on me... It mesmerized me, it filled me up and after eating ...satisfied me. Usually all three do not match but in this case it did. I give credit to their Executive Chef Matthew Broder.

I had to come back another time to taste the Chinese Express Lunch. I selected the Sa-Cha Beef and Mushroom Entree, West Lake Monced Beef Soup and Taro & Sago Sweet Soup for dessert. I was pleasantly surprised to get not one but four appetizers delicately arranged in a four squared plate. The light and tastey Shanghai Seefood Spring Roll which had Shrimp soft in the inside Crunchy in the outside....it went well with the Hot & Sour Cabbage, Crunchy Sesame Celery and the big surprise - Drunken Chicken.
My main entree which was generously bathed with a lightly flavored brown sauce and mushroom - served with white rice on the side. The flank steak beef was so tender and juicy. The serving was so generous. I could not have asked for more. It was flavored just enough without the usual overwhelming Chinese Hoisin Sauce taste... This one was falvored to a T....The soup was oh so authentically Chinese - the West Lake Minced Beef Soup reminds me of the Rice Congee  served in Chinatown and like my Mom's Filipino lugaw - yummmm! . The dessert is reminiscent of Filipino - BiloBilo.  Kudos to the Chinese Chef Kevin Wong. - Executive Banquet Chef.

Deluge at Sheraton LaGuardia is conveniently located in Flushing Queens, a block away from the 7 Train off Roosevelt and Main Street. Valet  Parking is available at the hotel or you can park at the Municipal Parking infront of the hotel.

Besides mesmerizing you, satisfying you, filling you up.... besides the totally relaxing ambience and privacy - the best reason to come to this place is their high caliber service. From the first moment you step in... to your ordering your food to the food service... you will feel like a king or queen.... You will be well taken care of. With their welcoming smile to their warm hospitality you will think you are being welcomed to their own homes....

I highly recommend "Deluge" at the Sheraton LaGuardia East Hotel! You will thank me for it!

  Exclusive Interview with Cassandra Kubinski
by: Luis Pedron of Fanclubx.com

Luis Pedron:  You have a very young, playfully sexy and vibrant
style of singing, who  are your influences in the music field and why? How
do you describe your style of singing and songwriting?

Cassandra Kubinski: My influences are most heavily: (from my youth)
Billy Joel , then  singer/songwriters like John Mayer,
Norah Jones, Vanessa Carlton ( from when I started songwriting).  Also Dave
Matthews Band, U2, and classic rock.  I love melody and great songs,
hooky, pop songs, and all these bands and artists have incredible "musicianship"
as well as composing great songs. I describe my style of singing as a cross between
Alanis Morisette, Natalie Maines (of the Dixie Chicks), and Norah Jones.
My songwriting, I think is more like a cross between the current writers like
John Mayer and the older writers like Carole King.

Luis Pedron:  You are also a songwiter, I know it goes hand and hand but -
which one do  you enjoy more singing or songwritting and  why?

Cassandra Kubinski: Different ones at different times!  There's nothing
like the thrill of finishing a new song I feel great about, but also nothing like
the thrill of hitting a great note or riff and thrilling an audience with that.

Luis Pedron:  I like your positive song "Racecar." and your
'reminiscing' type song "Echoes."  I like the way it empowers people. Please talk
about how you encourage  your audience with you songs...

Cassandra Kubinski: I think one of the great things about songs is they
allow you to sing things you might otherwise be too embarrassed,
or nervous to say.  But we've always needed songs to help us, encourage us,
make us laugh and cry, give us a release.  That's what I love about being able
to write words and music- being able to give people an outlet for their emotions
through me.

Luis Pedron:  Please talk about your  super busy touring of the US and Germany
this 2008....

Cassandra Kubinski: I'm currently on a Borders-sponsored and promoted
tour, playing Borders Books and Music all over the Northeast.  It's cool to see my
CD "Hold the Sun" alongside CDs from artists like Herbie Hancock and
Gavin Degraw!  I'm also playing a bunch of clubs, restaurants, and I just returned
from Germany, where we sold out a show in Munich.  The Germans are a really
appreciative audience and a lot of fun.  The next time I play in NYC is:
Tuesday, June 3 8 PM Rockwood Music Hall (196 Allen street) 21+
Friday, June 13 10 PM The Cutting Room (19 W. 24th St) 21+
The Cutting Room show in particular is going to be a blast- I will have my full
electric band there.  Come on out!

Luis Pedron: If  you had one advice to the youth out there  about pursuing their
dreams, what would it be?

Cassandra Kubinski: Get realistic about what it's going to take to get
you where you really want to go.  The road to any dream, and anything worth
doing, is strewn with hardships, potholes, and missteps.  I've learned some
very hard lessons recently, and have come up against challenges I didn't expect
and had to learn to deal with.  Be prepared for people, circumstances, and life
to challenge you and your dream.  You need to be so committed to it that
NOTHING can stand in your way. Find a way to renew your committment and
find peace in the midst of the challenges that will come up along the way.

Luis Pedron:  Please tell us what are the different websites
that we can check out and  buy your music.....

Cassandra Kubinski: You can buy both "Hold the Sun" and "hiding
underneath" on iTunes or get the hardcopy with lyrics,
photos, etc at
www.CKubinski.com I'm also on
Myspace.com/CassandraKubinski. I would love to hear what
your readers think about the CDs and hope you check them out!

Luis Pedron:  What kind of artist do you hope to be in the music
industry?

Cassandra Kubinski: I hope to become the kind of singer/songwriter in the
realm of John Mayer, Alicia Keys, Fiona Apple, Rob Thomas- artists who
not only have a strong vocal style and a unique songwriting point of view
and style, but also have a personal style, a personality that people
gravitate towards.  I'm looking forward to touring all over (maybe opening
up for one of these artists??), releasing hit records (hopefully!), and getting
back into acting, film, TV (which is actually how my career
started, back in my teens).  I hope to be affecting
people with my music on a large scale, worldwide!

Luis Pedron:  Thank you and Congrats! By the way, thank you for being part of
the Phil-US EXPO 2008

THE 13TH NANTUCKET FILM FESTIVAL

Transsiberian to Open, The Wackness to Close
the Nantucket Film Festival (June 19-22, 2008)
featuring the introduction of the Compass Rose Acting Tribute

APRIL 2008 (New York, NY) – Surf’s up as the 13th Annual Nantucket Film Festival gears up for June 2008. Things are kicking into gear today as Executive Director Jill Burkhart and Artistic Director Mystelle Brabbée announce that writer/director Judd Apatow will receive the “Suzanne and Bob Wright Screenwriter’s Tribute Award” presented by NBC Universal. Actress Meg Ryan will receive the first annual Compass Rose Acting Tribute Award.

Event organizers announced that renowned screenwriter Judd Apatow will be honored with the “Suzanne and Bob Wright Screenwriter’s Tribute Award”, presented by NBC Universal. “It seemed natural to honor a filmmaker as diverse and unique as Judd who embodies what this award is all about,” said Jill Burkhart.

Judd Apatow wrote and directed recent hits The 40 Year Old Virgin and Knocked Up and has a hand in several anticipated comedies including co-writing the forthcoming You Don’t Mess With the Zohan as well as producing Pineapple Express.

“Judd has brought an incredible new voice to screenwriting, and has completely revitalized the way comedies are made,” Mystelle Brabbée added.

Past NBC Universal screenwriter tributes have honored Steve Martin, Charlie Kaufman, Ruth Prawer Jhabvala, Jay Presson Allen, Paul Schrader, Walter Bernstein, Ring Lardner Jr., James Schamus, Robert Benton, Alexander Payne and Jim Taylor.

To add further prestige to this year’s festival is actress Meg Ryan as the introductory recipient of the Compass Rose Acting Tribute, a unique honor given to an actor that has reached a level in which they inspire writers to frequently create roles especially for them.

Mr. Apatow and Ms. Ryan will both be appearing at this year’s Nantucket Film Festival. The events will also feature various colleagues and special guests who have yet to be announced.

This year’s festival once again sees the Adrienne Shelly Excellence in Filmmaking Award, which gives a cash prize to a promising female writer/director at the festival in conjunction with The Adrienne Shelly Foundation. The foundation was founded by her husband, Andy Ostroy, to honor the late filmmaker and support the artistic achievements of female writers, directors, and actors through scholarships and grants. Meg Ryan will present the award to the successors of last year’s winners Ricki Stern and Anne Sundberg, directors of The Devil Came on Horseback.

Members of the foundation’s advisory board include Rosanna Arquette, Hal Hartley, Ted Hope, Bennett Miller, Peter Newman, Paul Rudd, and Keri Russell.

Among other awards given at NFF ® this year will be The Audience Award for Best Feature & Best Short, Showtime’s Tony Cox Awards for Best Screenwriting in a Feature Film and Short Film, Teen View on NFF® Award, Best Storytelling in a Documentary Film, and The Writer/Director Award.

In keeping with NFF® mission of spotlighting writers, the Festival will announce the winner of Showtime’s annual “Tony Cox Award for Screenwriting” in early June. The winner will be feted at the Showtime Award Ceremony at the Festival.

Other special events include the yearly Late Night Storytelling with returning hosts Anne Meara and Peter Farrelly. Participants include five surprise guests as well as audience members. Past storytellers include Jim Carrey, Tina Fey, Mos Def, Rosie Perez, Laird Hamilton, Olympia Dukakis, Paul Rudd, Alan Cumming, and Brian Williams.

Also returning this year will be annual favorite Morning Coffee With, this year hosted by renowned film critic Leonard Maltin. The daily panels take place every morning and invite attendees to join filmmaker experts for a lively mix of coffee, conversation, bagels and shoptalk.

This year’s staged reading partners NFF with Nantucket’s Seaside Shakespeare for a reading of the Billy Wilder classic Some Like It Hot. Past staged readings have included the hilarious Showstopper by Anthony Barille & Geoffrey Nauffts including the talents of Ben Stiller and Academy Award winner Marisa Tomei. Last year’s reading, Filthy, Dirty, Twisted Lust was directed by Steven Weber from his own screenplay. The coveted screenplay A Confederacy Of Dunces by Steven Soderbergh and Scott Kramer was the centerpiece staged reading of NFF 2003 and featured Will Ferrell in the starring role with Alan Cumming, Mos Def, and Rosie Perez.

The opening film of this year’s festival is writer/director Brad Anderson’s Transsiberian. The film boasts stars Woody Harrelson, Emily Mortimer, Ben Kingsley, Kate Mara, and Eduardo Noriega. The film will be accompanied by a special panel on the making of Transsiberian featuring writer/director Brad Anderson, writer Will Conroy, and producer Michael Williams as well as a special making-of documentary.

Closing the festival will be anticipated comedy The Wackness, written and directed by Jonathan Levine and starring Ben Kingsley, Famke Janssen, Josh Peck, Olivia Thirlby, and Mary-Kate Olsen.

The NFF was founded in 1996 to spotlight screenwriters, screenwriting and storytelling in today's cinema. The festival takes place over five days in June on the idyllic island of Nantucket, MA.

Now in its thirteenth year, NFF has become a prestigious annual event within the international film industry. Screening over 50 feature-length and short films in all genres that highlight the art of storytelling, the NFF is significant attraction that draws over ten thousand attendees, screenwriters, producers, agents and development executives each year.

Sponsers of this year’s festival include NBC Universal, Showtime, CN8 and Comcast, Stella Artois, Merrill Lynch, HP, Tradewind Aviation, American Airlines, Nestle Waters, Inquirer & Mirror, and the Beachside Hotel.
