Best Nursery Rhyme Songs
No matter how many years it has been since we learnt nursery rhyme songs in school, or even when we last sang them, there is no way you can ever forget them. It has been almost 25 years since I was a kindergarten kid and had learnt many a nursery rhymes for children in school. But despite not singing them since years, I still seem to remember almost all the rhymes word for word.
Most of the stories for kids that I had read in those days – I still seem to recall. However, those are often hazy in my memory. But as far as nursery rhymes are concerned, I remember them all! Who can forget the escapades of Jack and Jill who went up the hill? What amused me most was the fact that yes, Jack did fall down and that is why he hurt his head. But why did Jill have to come tumbling down if she was not the one who fell?! Funny, don’t you think?
Then there was one of the most awesome nursery rhyme songs that I had heard and it was called Humpty Dumpty. Not just a rhyme, but as far as stories for kids go, it wasn’t a bad story either. Imagine an egg that went by the name of Humpty Dumpty! That was enough to send me and my friends into peals of laughter. But at least the rhyme made more sense to me than some others. Once Humpty fell down and broke, no one could put him together again. Even though the mighty king’s men tried their best, they could not help repair humpty.
In school, somehow we started relating obese children to humpty dumpty. I guess the shape of the egg was such that it looked like a fat kid. Thus, anytime someone saw a child who was on the heavier side, they would make fun of him and call him humpty dumpty. Today I realize our silliness and am quite embarrassed to know that we acted in such a childish manner at one point in our lives. But that is what kids do, I guess! Thankfully, the stories for kids today teach lot of good morals to our kids and hopefully they are not behaving in such a juvenile manner in school.
Since the humpty dumpty nursery rhymes for children were created, speculations have also been rife that the rhyme is about King Richard The Third of England. The story depicts the king’s fall from one of his many horses. While this was one interpretation of the nursery rhyme, another explanation of the rhyme is that it could be alluding to the downfall of Cardinal Wolsey that was brought about by the hands of King Henry The VIII.
